Candace Robb

Candace Robb is an American author and historian best known for historical mysteries set in medieval Britain. Her postgraduate studies in medieval and Anglo-Saxon literature and history provided the foundation for fiction distinguished by detailed settings, political intrigue and carefully reconstructed everyday life. Her novels frequently explore the tensions between royal authority, religious institutions and local communities during the fourteenth century.

Robb’s best-known works are the Owen Archer Mysteries, centred on a former soldier and spy investigating crimes in medieval York, and the Kate Clifford Mysteries, which feature a widowed businesswoman drawn into dangerous political affairs. She also wrote the Margaret Kerr trilogy, set during the Scottish Wars of Independence. Under the name Emma Campion, she published historical novels about Alice Perrers and Joan of Kent, combining documented events with imaginative accounts of women close to royal power.
