Twentieth Dynasty of Egypt

The Twentieth Dynasty ruled during the final phase of the New Kingdom. Ramesses III was its most powerful ruler, defending Egypt against external threats and presenting himself as a restorer of order. After his reign, royal authority weakened and the state faced growing economic, administrative and political strain.

This dynasty mattered because it shows the New Kingdom moving from military prestige into decline. Court factions, labour unrest, temple power and succession anxieties all reveal a monarchy under pressure despite the grandeur of its public image.
