Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius ruled during the Antonine period and spent much of his reign dealing with war, plague and succession. His Meditations, written in Greek, are personal philosophical notes rather than a public treatise.

He belongs in Classical as both emperor and author. His work supports pages on Stoicism, the Antonine age, Roman kingship, military duty and the contrast between private discipline and public power.
