Battle
Battle of Munychia
403 BCE
Thrasybulus and democratic exiles occupied Piraeus after returning from Thebes. The forces of the Thirty attacked their position on the hill of Munychia despite being forced to advance uphill through restricted ground.
The exiles won the battle and Critias, the leading member of the Thirty, was killed. Continued fighting and Spartan mediation eventually permitted the restoration of democracy.
The Last of the Wine reaches its climax at Munychia, where Alexias and Lysis fight with the returning democrats and the political recovery of Athens is purchased through personal loss.
