The first Highway Trilogy novel uses the later legend of Lady Katherine Ferrers as a starting point rather than a literal biography. Through Abigail’s perspective it explores class, communication and divided loyalty in the unsettled aftermath of civil war, when old allegiances still shaped who could be trusted and what a family might lose.
