The Occupation
Jersey, 1940. Céline Huber is married to a German when Nazi forces occupy the Channel Islands, leaving her caught between family ties and loyalty to the island where she lives. Concern for her Jewish friend Rachel pushes her towards resistance and a dangerous double life. At the same time, Céline’s husband Fred is conscripted into the Wehrmacht and sent to occupied France.
Fred’s revulsion at what he witnesses draws him towards the French Resistance, while Céline must survive under direct German rule at home. Their parallel choices show occupation from opposite sides of the military machinery, asking how a marriage can endure when each partner is forced to conceal actions that could bring imprisonment or death.
