Target Arnhem
September 1944. During Operation Market Garden, Sergeant Sean Harris and a small team of paratroopers are sent into the Arnhem area to recover a Dutch scientist hiding with the Resistance. The scientist carries information about a German facility connected to a new synthetic fuel for the V-2 programme, turning a rescue mission into a race against Gestapo pursuit and the rapidly worsening Allied position.
Harris and his men are fictional, but McKay places them amid the historical airborne battle around Arnhem and Oosterbeek, where the 1st Airborne Division became isolated and the expected ground relief failed to arrive in time. The novel combines the documented campaign and early V-2 attacks with an invented espionage plot, allowing the military collapse of Market Garden to shape every stage of the characters’ escape.
