Rhodesian Bush War, 1964–1979

The Rhodesian Bush War developed from African nationalist opposition to white-minority rule and the unilateral declaration of independence in 1965. ZANLA and ZIPRA guerrillas operated from neighbouring countries and within rural Rhodesia.

The conflict involved counter-insurgency, cross-border raids, political detention and widespread civilian coercion. Negotiations at Lancaster House led to elections and internationally recognised independence in 1980.
