The Joubert Family Chronicles

The Joubert Family Chronicles follows generations of a Huguenot family from the French Wars of Religion into the maritime and colonial worlds of the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The Burning Chambers begins in Carcassonne in 1562; The City of Tears carries the family into the St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre and exile in Amsterdam; The Ghost Ship moves through France, the Netherlands, the Canary Islands and the Barbary Coast; and The Map of Bones concludes at the Cape in 1688 and 1862.

Across four novels, private loyalties are repeatedly reshaped by religious persecution, migration, piracy, slavery and colonial settlement. Women preserve knowledge that official records omit, while each generation confronts the consequences of choices made by earlier members of the family. The series combines political conflict, maritime adventure and family saga with a sustained interest in exile and historical memory.
