Trojan Gold

by Elizabeth Peters Book 4 in the Vicky Bliss Mysteries series.

First published 1987

4.4(645)

Vicky receives a bloodstained envelope containing a modern photograph of a woman wearing the gold jewellery once displayed by Sophia Schliemann. The treasure excavated at Troy disappeared during the fall of Berlin, so the image suggests that at least part of the collection has survived in private hands.

A group of scholars and suspects gathers at a Bavarian hotel for Christmas, each possessing fragments of the treasure’s wartime history. Vicky follows the photograph’s provenance while John Smythe reappears with his own agenda, and the search becomes a closed-circle mystery when someone begins eliminating those who know where the gold was hidden.
