Andrew Moray was a Scottish nobleman and military leader in the opening phase of the First War of Scottish Independence. After escaping English captivity in 1297, he raised resistance in northern Scotland and joined William Wallace in defeating an English army at Stirling Bridge.
Moray was mortally wounded during or soon after the battle and died later that year. His role was crucial: the victory at Stirling Bridge was a joint command achievement, and his northern rising helped turn scattered resistance into a national campaign.
