Historical person

Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia

1901–1918

Anastasia grew up with her siblings at the imperial residences and was known within the family for energetic humour and practical jokes. After the February Revolution, the Romanovs were held first at Tsarskoye Selo, then Tobolsk and finally Yekaterinburg.

The family was killed by Bolshevik guards on 17 July 1918. Rumours that Anastasia had survived produced numerous claimants and inspired novels and films, but the recovery and DNA analysis of the Romanov remains established that she died with her family.
