Cavendon Hall

The Cavendon series follows the aristocratic Inghams and the Swanns, whose family has served Cavendon Hall for generations, from the final summer before the First World War to Britain’s difficult post-war recovery. Their shared history binds the two families together, but differences of class, inheritance and opportunity repeatedly test that loyalty.

Across four novels, the estate survives wartime loss, the social transformation of the 1920s, financial crisis, the approach of another world war and the austerity that follows it. Women from both sides of the house increasingly determine Cavendon’s future as old privileges give way to careers, fashion, film and new forms of independence.
