Elizabeth Mortimer
1371–1417
Elizabeth Mortimer was an English noblewoman, a granddaughter of Lionel of Antwerp and wife first of Henry Percy, known as Hotspur, and later of Thomas de Camoys. Her Mortimer descent connected her family to competing claims to the English crown during the reign of Henry IV.
In Anne O’Brien’s Queen of the North, in 1399 Elizabeth Mortimer belongs to a family with a powerful hereditary claim to the English throne. A. W. Boardman’s The Two Horns of the Moon places Elizabeth Mortimer within a narrative shaped by family, marriage and personal loyalty, court politics and dynastic power, and social change and the pressures of ordinary life.
