Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was a Mexican priest whose 1810 call to revolt, remembered as the Grito de Dolores, began the Mexican War of Independence. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla is generally dated to 1753–1811.
He led a mass insurgent movement through central Mexico before defeat, capture and execution in 1811. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was born in Corralejo de Hidalgo and died in Chihuahua City.
