John Lawrence, 1st Baron Lawrence
1811–1879
John Lawrence, 1st Baron Lawrence was a British administrator who helped govern Punjab after its annexation and later served as viceroy of India. His administrative network supported British operations during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and his later policy emphasised caution on the north-west frontier.
