Allied Airmen Escape Lines from Occupied France

Networks in occupied France sheltered downed Allied aircrew, supplied civilian clothing and false documents, and guided fugitives toward Spain, Switzerland or coastal evacuation points. Their work required chains of safe houses, railway contacts, guides and couriers, often coordinated with British escape organisations.

Because one arrest could expose many helpers, escape-line work demanded strict compartmentalisation and placed civilians at extreme risk.
