Theseus Series

The two Theseus novels reinterpret Greek myth as a possible memory of Bronze Age institutions, ritual and conflict. The King Must Die follows Theseus from Troizen through Eleusis and Athens to Crete, where the Minotaur legend becomes a dangerous system of bull dancing within the palace at Knossos.

The Bull from the Sea continues after his return, following his rule in Athens, his relationship with the Amazon Hippolyta, his marriage to Phaedra and the consequences of his friendship with Pirithous. The sequence retains the shape of myth while grounding divine signs and monsters in human belief and political change.
