The Shards

The Shards is a historical fantasy sequence in which divine relics shape the wars and dynastic struggles of the ancient Mediterranean. The prequel The Aegis and the Oasis follows Alexander the Great and Hephaestion in Egypt; the main trilogy begins after Julius Caesar’s assassination and follows the conflict among Octavian, Mark Antony and Cleopatra before moving into the reign of Augustus.

Fictional soldiers, librarians and guardians appear beside Caesarion, Cleopatra Selene, Juba II and other historical figures whose survival or destruction can alter control of the Shards. The 2026–27 editions retitle the original trilogy: The Ark and the Empire was first published as The Shards of Heaven, The Spear and the Storm as The Gates of Hell, and The Ring and the Ruin as The Realms of God.
