The Matriarchs

The Matriarchs reimagines the Genesis stories of Sarah, Rebekah, Leah and Rachel from the women’s perspectives. The novels follow arranged marriages, migration, infertility, motherhood and rivalry within the households through which the biblical covenant is transmitted from Abraham and Isaac to Jacob’s children.

Faith is the organising force of the series: each woman must decide what it means to trust an unseen God when promise and lived experience appear to conflict. The books also treat the matriarchs as complex people shaped by family custom and unequal marriage rather than as symbols without jealousy, fear, desire or moral responsibility.
