Drenai

The Drenai sequence is David Gemmell's central heroic-fantasy saga, a set of linked novels spanning centuries of warfare, invasion and political change. The books revisit the same world through different generations, following damaged warriors, reluctant leaders and ageing legends who are forced to decide what courage and honour mean when victory appears impossible.

Recurring figures include Druss, Waylander, Tenaka Khan and Skilgannon, but most volumes tell a complete story and can stand alone. Sieges, assassins, lost weapons, demonic enemies and collapsing kingdoms provide the action, while the series repeatedly returns to redemption, friendship, sacrifice and the difference between a celebrated legend and the fallible person behind it.
