Carnton Novels

The Carnton novels place fictional and real lives around the historic McGavock home in Franklin, Tennessee, before, during and after the Battle of Franklin. A wartime relief effort, Carnton’s conversion into a Confederate field hospital and the damaged society of Reconstruction provide the sequence with its historical structure.

The books confront sacrifice, divided loyalty, slavery’s legacy and the physical consequences of war while developing romances grounded in Christian redemption. The novella introduces the setting; the numbered novels then move from the battle itself to postwar counterfeiting and the difficult search for truth in a community that has survived defeat.
