Boer War Duology

The Boer War Duology brings together two South African military adventures separated by more than a decade. The Fleeing Tiger follows the aftermath of the Second Boer War through a stolen army payroll and a prolonged pursuit, while Sunset at Sheba moves to the Boer rebellion of 1914 and the divided loyalties created by South Africa’s entry into the First World War.

The books are linked by landscape, memory and the unresolved political consequences of the Anglo-Boer struggle rather than by a continuing protagonist. Together they examine guerrilla warfare, imperial authority, Afrikaner nationalism and the way old defeats continued to shape armed resistance in the early twentieth century.
