Alexander Seaton Series

The Alexander Seaton series follows a disgraced former minister who works first as a schoolmaster in Banff and later within the academic world of Aberdeen. Between 1626 and 1635, Seaton is drawn into murders involving poisoned bodies, family secrets, dangerous books, religious division and the recruitment of Scottish soldiers for continental war.

The four novels place their investigations inside the strict moral culture of early Stuart Scotland. Seaton’s efforts to recover his reputation and protect those close to him develop alongside the cases, while the series broadens from local kirk and burgh politics to the Plantation of Ulster and the Thirty Years’ War.
