Wu Sangui was a Ming general who admitted Qing forces through Shanhai Pass in 1644 and later became a powerful Qing feudatory.
His decision helped the Qing defeat Li Zicheng and enter northern China. Granted extensive authority in Yunnan, he later rebelled against the Kangxi Emperor in the Revolt of the Three Feudatories and proclaimed his own Zhou dynasty shortly before his death. In Alice Poon’s historical fiction, this person is represented within the Ming–Qing transition or the founding of the Qing dynasty.
