Sefton Delmer

Denis Sefton Delmer was born in Berlin in 1904 and grew up bilingual before becoming a British journalist. His knowledge of Germany and his reporting career gave him unusual access to German political life during the rise of the Nazis.

During the Second World War Delmer worked in British propaganda, becoming closely associated with covert or “black” radio stations that presented themselves as German voices. Using credible detail alongside carefully designed deception, his teams sought to damage morale and trust inside the Reich. The work became part of the wider British psychological-warfare effort supported by powerful transmitters such as Aspidistra.
