Giulia Farnese

Giulia Farnese was an Italian noblewoman known for her relationship with Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, who became Pope Alexander VI. Celebrated for her beauty, she gained access and influence at the papal court while her brother Alessandro advanced in the church and eventually became Pope Paul III.

The exact political weight of the relationship is difficult to measure because hostile Borgia stories mixed fact with scandal. Giulia later governed estates and arranged her family’s affairs independently. Giulia Farnese was born in Canino and died in Rome.
