Galdan Boshugtu Khan

Galdan Boshugtu Khan was a ruler of the Dzungar Khanate and a major Inner Asian rival of the Qing Empire. He expanded Dzungar power across Central Asia before fighting the Kangxi Emperor’s forces.

Galdan became ruler of the Dzungar Khanate and sought to dominate Mongolia and Central Asia. His expansion brought him into direct conflict with the Qing dynasty under the Kangxi Emperor, whose campaigns eventually defeated him; Galdan died in 1697 while still resisting Qing power.
