Aonghus Óg of Islay

Aonghus Óg of Islay was a leading member of Clan Donald and an important supporter of Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. He provided men, ships and refuge at a time when Bruce’s position was precarious.

Tradition associates Aonghus and his forces with Bruce’s western campaigns and the victory at Bannockburn. His support helped establish the MacDonald lordship as a major power in the Hebrides and western Highlands.
