Mozambique Civil War

After independence from Portugal, Mozambique’s FRELIMO government faced an insurgency by RENAMO. The conflict became connected to the regional struggle involving Rhodesia, apartheid South Africa and Cold War alliances.

Attacks on villages, transport and infrastructure displaced millions and caused severe famine and insecurity. The Rome General Peace Accords ended the war in 1992.
