Macon Fallon is a gambler and confidence man who believes he has found an easy way to profit from a group of hopeful settlers. He leads them to an abandoned mining town and presents the place as a community on the verge of a new gold strike, expecting to take their money before the fraud collapses.

Instead, the settlers begin turning the ghost town into a real place to live, and Fallon finds himself increasingly responsible for what he helped create. When outlaws and a would-be gunfighter threaten the settlement, he must defend people he originally intended to deceive.
