Bloody Crowns

Bloody Crowns is the North American edition of Michael Livingston’s reassessment of the conflict conventionally called the Hundred Years’ War. He argues that an English-centred chronology of 1337–1453 obscures a wider struggle over the shape of France and the political order of western Europe. The narrative therefore begins with maritime and feudal conflict in 1292 and continues through two centuries of war involving England, France, Burgundy, Brittany, Flanders, Scotland and other powers.

Famous episodes at Crécy, Poitiers, Agincourt and Orléans are placed beside dynastic claims, diplomacy, taxation, military reform and campaigns that ended without decisive battle. The extended chronology concludes in 1492, when the absorption of Brittany and the Treaty of Étaples helped establish more recognisable French and English states. This record represents the same work published in Britain as The Two Hundred Years War and is retained separately because the export contains distinct edition metadata.
