The novel follows Bathsheba beyond the scandal, through the death of her first child and the long consequences of David’s sin. As mother of Solomon she must judge when silence becomes complicity and when court influence can preserve the promised succession. Christian themes of confession, judgement and mercy prevent the story from treating royal romance as an excuse for abuse of power.
