Dhoondia Waugh Insurgency

After Tipu Sultan’s defeat, Dhoondia Waugh emerged from the disrupted Mysorean military world and built a force from former soldiers, local supporters and men displaced by war. His movement operated across the frontier between Mysore and Maratha territory, exploiting the uncertainty left by the collapse of the old regime.

The insurgency mattered because it showed that British victory at Seringapatam did not automatically produce control. Arthur Wellesley’s campaign against Dhoondia Waugh became one of his early independent commands and tied local disorder to wider questions of Company authority.
