Severan Civil War
193–197 CE
Septimius Severus moved rapidly to control Rome after the murder of Pertinax and the fall of Didius Julianus. His next opponents were Pescennius Niger in the East and Clodius Albinus in the West.
Severus defeated Niger’s forces in the eastern provinces before later turning against Albinus, whose power base lay in Britain and Gaul. The conflict ended with Severus as sole ruler and founder of a new dynasty.
Storm of War, Clash of Legions and Field of Blood place Marcus Aquila inside the eastern part of this war. The conflict suits fiction about intelligence, competing emperors, divided provinces and legions fighting other legions.
