The Boudican Revolt erupted in AD 60 or 61 after Roman abuses against the Iceni royal family and wider resentment of occupation. Boudica led a large uprising that destroyed Roman settlements including Camulodunum, Londinium, and Verulamium. The revolt was eventually crushed by Roman forces under Suetonius Paulinus.
The revolt mattered because it exposed the violence and fragility of early Roman rule in Britain. It showed that conquest did not automatically mean control, especially when local elites were humiliated and communities felt exploited. The Roman victory secured the province, but the memory of the revolt remained powerful.
