Trojan War

The Trojan War is the legendary conflict between the Achaeans and the city of Troy, traditionally placed in the late Bronze Age. Its stories are preserved most famously through the Iliad, the Odyssey, and later Greek and Roman retellings. Whether treated as myth, memory, or a distant echo of real conflict, it became one of the defining narratives of Greek culture.

The war matters because it gave Greek literature a shared language of glory, grief, honour, anger, fate, and homecoming. Achilles, Hector, Helen, Agamemnon, Odysseus, Priam, and Cassandra became figures through whom later writers explored war and responsibility. The fall of Troy also became a symbol of destroyed cities, displaced peoples, and the fragile boundary between victory and ruin.
