Twelfth Dynasty of Egypt

The Twelfth Dynasty was one of the most important dynasties of the Middle Kingdom. It followed a period of restored royal authority and developed a more organised administrative state centred on the Nile Valley, royal building, provincial management and controlled expansion.

The dynasty mattered because it produced strong rulers, major fortifications, increased activity in Nubia and a high level of literary and bureaucratic culture. Its kingship was less remote than Old Kingdom pyramid ideology but still deeply tied to Ma’at, ritual legitimacy and the protection of Egypt.
