Battle of Bud Dajo

From 5 to 8 March 1906, United States troops and Philippine Scouts assaulted Moro positions inside the crater of Bud Dajo on Jolo Island. The operation took place during the Moro Rebellion and involved forces operating under the authority of Governor Leonard Wood.

Almost all of the Moros in the crater were killed, including many women and children. American officials initially presented the action as a military victory, but photographs and reports of the casualties provoked criticism in the United States and made Bud Dajo one of the most controversial episodes of American colonial warfare in the Philippines.
