Oregon Women’s Suffrage Movement

Abigail Scott Duniway became the movement’s most persistent organiser and publisher, using the New Northwest newspaper and extensive lecture travel to argue for women’s political and economic rights.

Oregon voters rejected several suffrage measures, and activists disagreed over strategy, temperance and alliances with national organisations. Victory came in 1912 after more than four decades of campaigning.
