Gunboat War

1807–1814 CE

The Gunboat War was fought between Britain and Denmark-Norway from 1807 to 1814 after the British attack on Copenhagen and seizure of the Danish fleet. Denmark-Norway aligned with Napoleon, while the Royal Navy used blockade and control of the sea to restrict Danish commerce and movement.

Unable to challenge British battle fleets directly, Danish and Norwegian forces relied heavily on small gunboats, privateers and coastal batteries. The conflict damaged trade and communications within the Danish monarchy and lasted until the wider Napoleonic settlement of 1814.
