Night Journey

Night Journey is a wartime spy thriller about Mencken, an Austrian chemist drawn into danger as he travels through a Europe controlled or threatened by fascist power. His journey turns technical knowledge into a liability, forcing him to choose between survival, fear and self-respect.

The novel belongs to the early World War II atmosphere in which espionage, borders and occupied territory are never abstract. Its historical value for the site is not a battle setting but the mood of 1940–1941 Europe: suspicion, compromised neutrality, Nazi pressure and the belief that Britain might be fighting a war it could lose.
