Margaret Murray Mysteries

The Margaret Murray mysteries turn the real Egyptologist and archaeologist Margaret Alice Murray into the centre of historical murder investigations at the beginning of the twentieth century. Her scholarly training, attention to material evidence and refusal to accept convenient explanations make her a plausible fictional investigator within the academic and social world of University College London.

Four Thousand Days begins in 1900 with the suspicious death of a student; Breaking the Circle moves into Edwardian London and another case shaped by contemporary ideas about archaeology, spiritualism and women’s changing professional lives. The mysteries use Murray’s historical career as their foundation while keeping the murders and private investigations fictional.
