Anglo-Turkish War

The Anglo-Turkish War of 1807–1809 grew from British efforts to prevent the Ottoman Empire from aligning closely with Napoleonic France. A British naval squadron forced the Dardanelles in 1807 but failed to compel Constantinople to accept British demands and withdrew under fire.

A simultaneous British occupation of Alexandria also failed to produce a durable strategic advantage. The conflict ended with the Treaty of the Dardanelles in 1809, restoring peace between Britain and the Ottoman Empire while the wider diplomatic struggle among Britain, France, Russia and the Ottoman state continued.
