The Road of the Eagles
The Road of the Eagles is set in the Ottoman world of 1595, where the Cossack warrior Ivan Sablianka pursues the corsair Osman Pasha through political intrigue and seaborne violence. Howard exploits the Black Sea frontier and the wider Ottoman sphere to produce a story of boarding actions, espionage, shifting allegiances and desperate pursuit.
Its mixture of Cossack warfare, maritime action and imperial politics gives the story a distinctive late-sixteenth-century eastern European setting.
