The Battle for the Falklands

The Battle for the Falklands, written by Max Hastings with Simon Jenkins, is a contemporary history of the 1982 war between Britain and Argentina. Jenkins examines much of the political and diplomatic background while Hastings, who reported from the campaign and entered Port Stanley at the end of the fighting, contributes the military narrative and frontline perspective.

The book follows the Argentine seizure of the islands, the dispatch of the British task force, the naval and air war and the land campaign that ended with the Argentine surrender. Margaret Thatcher and Leopoldo Galtieri appear as the political leaders whose decisions shaped the conflict. First published in 1983, it is nonfiction history and reportage.
