Mangal Pandey
1827–1857
Mangal Pandey was a sepoy of the Bengal Army whose attack on British officers at Barrackpore in March 1857 became one of the most famous preludes to the Indian Rebellion.
Pandey’s actions at Barrackpore became a powerful symbol in later memory of the 1857 uprising and are central to accounts of the army crisis that preceded the general rebellion.
