To the Coral Strand
India, 1948. A year after independence, former British Indian Army officer Rodney Savage is still trying to discover whether the country to which his family devoted generations can contain a place for him. He is reunited with Margaret Wood, a widowed missionary nurse whose own faith and purpose have been shaken by loss.
As Rodney encounters political suspicion, local conflict and the consequences of the Raj’s disappearance, inherited authority proves useless in the new republic. His growing relationship with Margaret develops alongside a more difficult acceptance that postcolonial India cannot be approached as the country he once knew, bringing the Savage story into the immediate aftermath of independence and partition.
