Noah

Biblical figure

In Genesis, Noah is the son of Lamech and is described as righteous in a violent generation. God commands him to build an ark and preserve his family and animals through a catastrophic flood.

Noah is a religious and literary figure whose life cannot be assigned securely documented historical dates. Noah is the righteous figure in Genesis who builds the ark, survives the flood with his household and receives a covenant after the waters recede. Noah also worked as Biblical patriarch.

Gilbert Morris’s Heart of a Lion expands the brief Genesis account of Noah into a biographical biblical novel. It imagines his youth, marriage and moral formation in a violent society before the command to build the ark, presenting obedience as something developed through repeated choices rather than appearing suddenly at the Flood. The novel’s domestic life and chronology are imaginative reconstructions, while Noah’s survival and covenant remain rooted in the biblical narrative.
