Invasion of Java
1811 CE
A large British expedition landed on Java in August 1811 and defeated Franco-Dutch forces after fighting around Batavia and the fortified lines at Cornelis.
The surrender gave Britain control of Java until the post-war settlement returned most Dutch possessions. Stamford Raffles became lieutenant-governor and attempted administrative reform.
To the Eastern Seas culminates in this contest, combining amphibious warfare with rivalry over how Britain should use victory in the region.
